Plant help please

They're planted too close. Plant at least an inch apart from each stems. That might work.

:agree: Yup, the fact that the tips are green probably means that having them so close is shading the bottom leaves out. Just spread them out a bit.
 
Think I should trim it down?


I wouldn't trim them yet. Just spread them out and wait until you see some growth and then you can trim.

Nope. Just make sure they're planted deep enough, and at least an inch apart. I usually plant about 1.5-2" or more apart to allow fish to move between them.

How long should it take for them to take hold?

If your fish keeps digging them out it'll never happen. Try to burry it as deep as you can in the substrate. That's all I can tell you. I've never had fish that would uproot any plants so I've never had to deal with type of situations.
