Hello so I'm new to the hobby all together but I'm getting It Because I want to go into marine biology. Anyway, I bought some plant bulbs from petsmart the other day. They included 1 water lily, 1 water onion and 2 aponogentons. What I did was just put them a little ways down in the gravel. Enough where you could still see the bulb kinda. Some are sprouting but others not as much. Is this normal, I'm not familiar with aquatic plants. Any tips or advice please.

It's normal for those bulb packs. Some grow some don't. They also dont tell you that the growth rate for those plants is different. So give it a few weeks before you throw the duds out. The one thing to check. On the ones that aren't sprouting is to Filp then over and see if there is any growth. You may have accidentily planted them upside down.

Here's a trick for bulbs...
Don't plant new ones in the tank right away. Wrap them in paper towels (or a regular towel or whatever you have) and keep it moist, not wet just thoroughly moist. Put that in a bowl and stash it somewhere warm, not hot but warm. Home entertainment electronics give off heat so somewhere in your entertainment center would be great so long as it does not too hot. Keep the wrappings moist at all times and check them occasionally. Soon the bulbs will sprout. Now you know which way is up and which ones are duds and you can plant them with confidence.

It's a little late for that. I'll just wait. It say grows in thirty days
