Ive had two kuhli loaches die on separate events immediately after doing a replant.

Of course the gentle digging produces a cloud of refuse but Im at a loss as to why they would die.

There where fertilizers planted many months ago but im sure they would of dissolved by now.

Tank is community 20G with peaceful cats, rams and snails.

Since its a planted tank I dont do gravel vacuum but change 33% water weekly.

Any ideas?

How deep is the substrate? If it's more than 5" you could be releasing pockets of toxic gas. Even if that's not the case, I usually try to do a water change at the same time that I do any re-planting to minimize the risk of toxins/debris getting kicked into the water column too much.

thanks for replies and input......

im using the black Bio-Activ NUTRIENT-ENRICHED gravel around 2-3 inches deep.

Could be a toxin buildup even though i do a water change.

Ill be removing these fish in the future during any renovation...
