Planting plants

Some of the plants I just bought from my LFS came in a small plastic pot with some green spongy material in it, kind of like what a moss ball feels like. Should I try to remove as much of this green stuff as I can or just plant it down into the ground too?
 
Did you get it from a petco? That's how they come when I get some from them.

Yes .. remove it from the green spongy material if you want to closely examine the plants for snails and want to give the roots room to grow ... unless you just want to plant them as is.
