I'm a newbie trying to set up a brand new 29 gallon tank and need plant advice.

I will have a Nova Extreme 30" 2x24W T5 fixture on top. I've been looking around at "plant packages" since I don't know all too much about aquarium plants and came across a "easy life" package that looks pretty good to me.

It includes:

  • 2 Anacharis
  • 4 Rotala indica
  • 3 Blood Stargrass
  • 6 Japanese Fans
  • 3 Dwarf Lily Plants
  • 15 Dwarf Onions
  • 2 Ambulia
  • 15 Tall Sagittaria subulata
  • 2 medium red-spot Ozelot swords
  • 15 Crypt Walkeri
  • 4 Java Ferns
That's a total of 71 plants. I want a pretty lush tank, but I don't know if this package will over-crowd the tank. There is a smaller package that only has 34 plants (which doesn't have the Rotala indica or Blood Stargrass included).

I'd like your thoughts and ideas.

It won't be overgrown. I do see a lack of foreground plants though; just a bunch of mid/back. When you're talking about those individual stem plants you're only getting like 1 stem. You could probably get M. quadrafolia for a med light foreground plant.

+1 on the quadrifolia. Its one of the easier foreground plants, and its really taking off in my 10g which only has 26 watts of spiral flourescent.
