Please help identify

I know he is a Malawi cichlids but a name would be nice

yep auratus it is. how big is it. looks like a decent size. female probably if its as big it seems.

Yeah it's still a baby didn't vent it yet but it's a pretty good size about 1.5 inches

Melanochromis auratus to be specific. Keep an eye on it, as it is much more aggressive than the Labidochromis caeruleus that it is pictured with.

Definately auratus could be a female.If it keeps the same colour it's female but if it starts to turn dark blue or black then it's a male.Also watch for egg spots on its anal fin.Hopefully it's a female as the gold is a much nicer colour imo

+1 on this advice the males are particularly aggressive...
