This guy (or gal) was purchased in Feb, and was supposed to be a Texas cichlid. Clearly it is not. I've looked in shops, asked around, still no positive ID. It is a beautiful fish, and I will keep. Seems to be dominant in tank, as there is a red devil in there as well. Surprising to me. (Red devil was a mistake as well. Was supposed to be a red Texas.) Anyway, any ideas as to what this fish may be?

Looks to me like an electric blue jack Dempsey or an eye biter

100% not an eye biter or a JD, look at those pictures side by side and see if you come to the same conclusion.

It kinda looks like a Herichthys carpintis (Green Texas ) to me, likely its a cross breed however. Its not uncommon for LFS to sell Texas crosses and claim them to be true stains. HUKIT would know for sure.

You may also want to rethink the sources you buy your fish from if you keep getting stuff that's not what it's suppose to be. I would recommend the following for buying fish.

Thanks Daniel622. I have learned my lesson about where I purchase my fish. Regarding this particular one, right now I am leaning towards it is a hybrid of some type. I have gotten green terror, midas, and a bunch of I dont have any ideas. It is pretty short bodied and its blue spots are in lines rather than scattered like a texas. His fins aren't longer and flowing like a green terror. It will be interesting to see what others say. All I know, is that I am not happy with the big pet chain selling me what I was led to believe was one species, and ended up being another. (Perticularily in the case of the red devil.) This guy however is becoming quite beautiful, and am enjoying him. Thank you for your thoughts.

Uh that was me who gave the advice lol! He just said it looked like an eye biter and JD.

I'd return it to the store if your not happy, if its a large chain they'll take it back. Then write to their corporate office and tell them what's going on, you can also report them to the better business bureau.

Hey I'm totally fine with the credit haha your welcome! Yeah I was completely wrong my bad I'm better with African chichlids

It has some umbee traits but may not be a pure bred. The color and the face markings look umbeeish.
