I'm not sure what this would be called or where to get one but what can I put around the top front of my aquarium to block the light from shining off my canopies while looking at the tank.

you mean shining off the lids? because a canopy would stop that from happening something like this

Yes from shining off my glass tops. I'm assuming those canopies are pretty much a DIY thing because the prices I see are ridiculous

pretty much, i would not buy one myself, and there are ALOT of places online that show you how to build them.
