Something else you might try are the sinking shrimp pellets they make for cories. Drop a couple in the tank after lights out every other night for a week, then just drop them in as you feed the fish normally. He'll most likely come out after the pellets as soon as you walk away. The bigger the pleco, the more brazen he'll be about coming out to feed.
