I have built a durso standpipe for the output line to my sump, my fish keep swimming down it so I went and bought a strainer to cover the 1.25" intake. But when I got the strainer it is one inch so I had to buy a reducing bushing to make it fit. When I put it on the tank I overflow started to fill up as if the intake was clogged. Is there any way to fix it?

build a box out of eggcrate, maybe 3x3 or 4x4 and fasten it on to the inlet of the overflow. that would keep fish out but not restrict the flow
