My Best Experimental Tank

Here's a pic of my 38 G. No mechanical filtration, just the emersed plants to keep the water pure. No traces of ammonia or nitrites. Nitrates consistently in the 5 ppm range.

Tank has about 75 Fancy Guppies and some various potted aquarium plants.

No maintenance needed, with the exception of replacing about 2 gallons of water per week because of evaporation and trimming the plants every week to 10 days. Total maintainance time 20-30 minutes per week.

38 G Low Maintenance Tank

Here's a pic of my 38 G.

What a great looking tank!

Hello Fran...

Thank you! Not many think this is the way to do it. But, after years of large, weekly water changes, this was the only way I could figure out to cut down on the work and still keep my fish and plants healthy.

Attached are some pics of my tank room.

Love it! That's the look I went for in one of my 30 gallons. I think yours puts mine to shame! Is that an LED lit bubble wall? What kind of lights do you have? I just got a new 55 gallon that is currently sitting empty. Congrats on getting to stock! :) :fish2: you should let us know what you go with!

That IS an LED bubble wand! Surprised anyone noticed! And I have the LED lights on my tank. The blue lights make it look amazing. So far I have invested over $1000 in the tank, stand, and filter. I previously had the tank stocked but sadly all of a sudden most of my fish started dying with no warning or signs of disease. So I will definitely be replacing my favorite fish which was a dwarf gourami ASAP!

Of course I noticed! I love it! I've always wanted one but I was skeptical. Now I need one, lol. you sound just like me! Your tank is kind of what I was going for with mine, but your substrate and lights make such a huge difference. It's beautiful! You've inspired me to want new lights for my 55. Lol. Mine are a little ghetto anyway. I attached some pictures. 1 of my 30 gallon tropical community, 1 of my gourami that I love, and 1 of the 55 gallon that is now sitting empty. That's the one the guy that sold it to me sent.

Are you running an aquatop cannister on the 55g? Just added an aquatop cf 400 w/uv to my 75g planted tank..if so I'd like your feedback on the unit..thx
