Potted plants question...

When you buy a potted plant from the fish store.... all the pacted stuff in the pot that the roots are going through..... should you remove it or just unpot the plant and stick in the just the way it is?
 
You need to take as much of the packing off as you can.
It could very well be full of snails and other crud from the grower that you really don't want in your tank.

+1. Get rid of as much as you can. Just be careful to not damage the roots.
 
+2 take your time depending on how long they been in there might be a little hard.
 
while you're doing it, run it under water while you do it. it'll help.
