Protein skimmer filter attachments

Ok so im getting an ehiem 2213 for my 20long, and its a topless tank, planted, adding more soon, and will have them growing out (hopefully)

So obviously a protein skimmer is mainly for saltwater, but I feel like a topless 20long would do well with a skimmer to get anything that may fall into tank (like dust) and help with keeping the water nice and clean.



Question.

Do the protein skimmers that attach to filters work very well. An ehiem skimmer is 60, the filter attachment is cheaper. What's the best option. Also, how could I use this and keep floaters like duckweed?

IMO Protein skimmers wont work in fresh water. You mite try a surface skimmer although IMO there are not necessary.
