I understand what a QT is. But do you add some medication or stress coat in there and let the fish hang out there for a few days?

Looking for a better understanding

Only add meds if they are needed. Otherwise it's mainly an observation tank to make sure new fish are healthy.

Each person is different but usually it's recommended to do 2-4 weeks.

I usually treat all of my new fish with 2 rounds of prazipro in quarantine to kill and flukes or other parasitic hitchhikers

Edit- except ich. Prazipro won't kill ich, but does kill flukes, tapeworms and other internal parasites

Since I'm going to be puttin loaches in next, better treat them for ick prior to putting in the 55gal tank

Loaches are very sensitive to most ich medications. When you QT the loaches, raise the temps in the tank to 86 degrees for 2 weeks. That will kill any icy that hitchhike with your fish.
