Question about puffer fish

So I had a green spotted puffer fish a while back with a figure 8 puffer. I was told that once they reach adulthood they go to salt water is this true???

The green spotted puffers require full saltwater when adult.
The figure 8 puffers are light brackish throughout their whole lives.

Ok thank you my LFS has GSP for $5 and I think he has them in freshwater or brackish not sure but they're his cheapest salt water fish
