It not the 'best' choice, but will be just fine. As a matter of fact, you could just cut all of the roots off of a SAM and it will do just fine as long as it has a way of getting nutrients. IE water column.

Sorry but I'm new to all this. I am currently cycling the tank now.
I was planning in adding plants to it when it's done.

What does SAM mean ?

And what do you mean by water column?

I'm not wanting to get highly involved with a crazy planted tank. Just a few live plants. I don't want to use any extra co2 or crazy lights.

Something easy. Is what I'm looking for.
I've heard that java moss is a good start. Any other opinions?

I have th same substrate but I'm not sure if they need co2
I have Two air stones

I've had java fern for a month now
They even started giving off sub plants
Elodea around a week and a half

SAM - submerged aquatic macrophyte. IE a plant that grows under water.

Water column - the water that is in the tank surrounding the SAM.

Thanks. Still a noob :)

Stephen, please forgive me, but all you have talked about is your substrate. You need more then a substrate to grow plants. What type of non-crazy light do you have?

The first is my 60 litre
2 nd is elodea
3 Rd is java moss ( trying to grow a carpet )
4 th is java moss
5 th is unknown but it grows nicely

I don't have any lights
Only my room light which is on for max 3 hours a day

But it's close to a window with a very thin curtain

I don't know. I bought the tank used. These are pics I just took for you. Maybe you can tell me

An overhead room light on for a max of 3 hours a day will not grow plants. Diffused sun light would be the only reason they would be growing.
