Rams and Apistos

Your not wrong. They we're placed there afew yrs back. But alot of people still like to classafie them in the Apistogramma class.
 
My understanding is that the rams were moved from the Apistogramma genus to a seperate genus Microgeophagus, (I'd like to know why, behavior, genetics, etc.?) both are in the family cichlidae, which is in the order perciformes (perch-like fishes), which is in the class Actinopterygii (ray finned fishes). Like most taxonomy it is always changing as more information is gathered, but it is interesting to see how things are classified.
