Rcs in a tank without substrate

I want to keep rcs in a tank with some guppy fry. But I had heard that it was easier to raise fry in a tank without gravel, so clean up would be easier. So does that mean I can't have any rcs in there?

I have rcs in a bare bottom tank now as a temp home. No issue thus far. I would get sand though as it is still easy to clean and looks nicer IMO.
