Sorry to hear about your RTS. Chances are it was already either sick and or weak, a healthy RTS should be strong enough to avoid the intake of most common aquariums filters. Mine swims by the intake routinely and doesn't even notice the suction.

If you haven't already, test the water parameters.

Unfortunately, if it's still alive it may be best to put it down.
