Hey all, just got back from lfs & I purchased a red Texas juvie,it's about 6cm but it's still grey in colour,I was warned by my friend that it was a fake & that red Texas juvies are born a reddish colour & should always be red no matter what size they were,is this true, did I buy a fake??

Your friend is wrong, Reds are a hybrid from a Amphilophus Labiatus and a Herichthys Carpintas or Cyanoguttatus, and do not start showing color at least a few months(red devils are born gray with black stripes) or longer after being born if they even color up at all. Hybrid genetics is not a exact science so when crossing species it's not uncommon to get some variations and abnormalities in appearance and behavior. I'm not a fan a any hybrids but that's another thread.
