Refugium?

Do I need to have a refugium in my sump? Im still trying to figure this out haha.

Technically you don't need anything in your sump but a return pump. Anything other than that is up to you.

What are the benefits of adding LR to your sump? If you add LR do you need a light on it?

just more physical area for bacteria colonization. If you have enough filtration elsewhere you don't need it. Some say that their macro attach to it as well. Mine floats so I'm not sure what's up w/ that

But if you put a piece and some sand in there it's a nice place for pods to live and breed. even then I'm not sure you'd need rock

A fuge is just a place for creatures that are more vulnerable to predation, hence "refuge"
