Rehoming fish. Questions about empty tank.

So I am rehoming my evil murderous tetra, and probably all of my other fish, to start a tank of just a few large fish. I was wondering if I will need to recycle my tank, or do a complete water change or anything if my tank stays empty for a few days to a week. Also, how would I go about adding the new fish? Can I add as many as I originally had? Or only a few at a time?

And on a side note... Any stocking suggestions of medium/large fish in a 55 gal?(i would like to keep my 6 corys tho...) Thanks!
