Return pump control valve

O my question is should I put an adjustable control valve on my return pump from my sump? The reason I ask this is because everytime I feed it seems like it gets sucking into my overflow box before the fish can even get to it.

just turn the pump off during feeding.

I have a ball valve on my return pump in my 125g and am literally putting one in right now on my new 90g. always good to have total control over the flow.
