Root Tabs and Plants

I would like to know what many of you alls schedule/tactic's are when placing root tabs, such as, how often replace & how close/away to the plant/s? I am asking because I have heard of many suggesting 3-5 around plants such as amazon swords/crypts, etc...some say to put them around stem plants but I thought that would be a waste since they get their nutrients from the water column...please advise me how YOU do it...pics be nice to see if possible...

I use osmocote+ root tabs, replace every 4 months, place them 6 inches apart, and try to stick them about an inch from root feeders.

under 6 inches 1, over 6 I use 2.

I have been using seachem's tabs and I replace them once a month. I am especially careful to do it with my swords.
