Sand for a texas

Would sand be good for my Texas or reg gravel I have normal aquarium gravel but I like natural looking stuff better ( I did not pic out gravel wife did )

I have african cichlids and i actually put sand in it lastnight, It is very do-able with any cichlids really, just make sure you choose the roght type, Some have bits of corals and shells in them, which can raise your PH quite high for a texas cichlid. If u pick just regular sand you can do it, just rinse off the dust as well as you can before putting it in!
