i have a sand sifting star for about 2 months he is fine but the last day i have noticed the ends of his legs are limp and about 2 of his legs are about a 1/4 missing he seems fine is moving around fine. will the legs grow back?i have 2 damsals and a cleaner shrimp in the tank the damsela dont bother the star but lately i have noticed the shrimp is cleaning the star, could the shrimp be responsible for the loss of the stars legs?

What are your water parameter? How big is your tank?
He may be starving. These stars depend on critters in the sand (pods, worms, etc)to feed off of.

His limbs will grow back and i`d watch the damsals when the lights go out. Do you have any crabs in the tank?
Most likely the cleaner shrimp is just following up on who ever ate the limbs. Just my opinion.

46 gallon i checked the water the other day all reading are perfect+salinty is right wher it should be, i wiil keep a eye on him thanks for the advice
