Scarlet Badis feeding

I know that I've already asked a little about this, but how hard are Scarlet Badis to feed usually. I know they love live foods, which may be a problem as my family travels alot. Is there a good chance I could ween some onto freeze dried foods, flake, and pellets?
For live foods, I would probably start a micro worm sp. culture. Also would I be able to catch some scud in a stream/lake and try farming them for fish food? I know you can buy them on places like Aquabid, but this would be cheaper as I could catch tons in the trout streams I fish.

I bought quite a few recently and I list a couple initially I think because they weren't eating. Now there's three and I don't think they're eating flake food, but they will eat frozen baby brine shrimp and daphnia.
