I was told by 1 guy to use only 1 shrimp in my 36 gallon.

and by another guy to use 1 shrimp or every 10 gallons.

Main question is, just a regular shrimp from grocery store that is raw but is edible right away right?

IS the shrimp supposed to be in a shell? or shellless?

Just a regular uncooked grocery store shrimp. Read our article about SW cycling in the articles section.

It should be raw. No additives or seasoning. And you can use one shrimp all the way up to 30 gallons, so maybe 2 shrimp will do the trick for you.

Surely it depends on what size it is . I used a king prawn in my 50 gallon tank , as that is what I had , it was as big as my thumb but twice as long. Seemed to work great although Ive not yet finished cycling on day 12 now.

See the link in my sig for the article. You may want to put it in some cheesecloth so it's eaier to pull out the remains.
