Shrinking soft coral

I want to know if it is normal for soft coral to shrink.

I am going to be getting some mushrooms and other soft corals soon and I want to know it is it normal?

At what times do they do this?

Feeding?
When the lights go out?
Too much light?
Too much flow?

Usually when lights go out.

They will also shrink when pooping.
