My old 10 gallon, which I'm currently trying to set up as BW for my puffer, doesnt have a biological sponge filter thingy. I never even knew what one was until I got my new filter pump, and now know the old filter didnt have one.

So basicly I wanted to know what I could use to make on, as it looks like they are just a sponge kind of material? or acctually, can you buy them at the pet stores?

Also, is there any kind of mantinence required ot the biological filter? or do you just let it go?

Thanks in advance for any help!!

You can get them at a store. Rinse them every few weeks with fresh tank water to get the extra debris off. You could add a bio-wheel.
