size of the sand

I was wondering what is the best grain size for mainly fish only marine
tank with some live rock and live sand with a sand depth of aprrox.
2-3 inches

You want sugar size and smaller to a depth of at least 4". Less than that and complete denitrification may not occur. Sugar size and smaller allows the inhabitation and encourages the reproduction of the necessary infauna (worms, 'pods, and other micro creatures) to process waste and uneaten food. Compromising on either of these two criteria will seriously impair the ability of the DSB to create a trouble free, low maintenance tank.
