Alien Snails

After two years my tanks is being over run by snails. They must have come from outer space. We did they come from and can someone tell how to get rid of them.

I pulled all of the decorations out and then sifted the sand. the next day I could see eggs on the walls and more snails crawling in the sand. Is this a bad thing or or a good thing ? Thanks in advance for the reply's.

If you have a ton of snails, you are likely over feeding your tank.

Most snails aren't bad. Mine are fine with healthy plants. They eat dead plants and leftover fish food.

Anything that has been submerged in another tank may or may not have snails/snail eggs on it. You could of gotten them from a plant, live purchase if you dumped the water it, all different kinds of ways to get snails.

As far as good or bad, I enjoy snails, they help clean up the tank and I enjoy watching them. Snails aren't bad for your tank at all, they can overtake your tank if you overfeed, but if you don't overfeed, they won't reproduce as quickly.

Getting rid of them, there are several ways to get a snail population under control, 1 is the veggie bait and trap. Put a piece of cucumber or zucchini on the bottom and pull it out with snails hanging on it, that will lower your population. 2 Cut back on feeding, they won't reproduce as slower. 3 Buy something that will eat them, loaches if you have the room for you, I myself have assassin snails, they don't reproduce as quickly as "pest snails" they are a pretty brown and yellow color kind of look like a bumblebee. You have to be careful with adding other fish/snails to control snails, when the snail population dies you have to keep feeding them or rehome.

It's really weird because I have not added anything to the tank.
As far as feeding they only get fed every other day. There are thousands of these in the tank. I really don't want them at all. I have a 220 gallon tank with no snails in it.
I was thinking just cleaning out the tank and starting over to get rid of the snails.

Thanks For the Reply.
