Soil releasing ammonia

So I recently wanted to empty my tank put soil and cap it with sand. I recently heard that adding soil releases ammonia, is this true. And if it is how often should I do water changes and how much until I should stop and do my normal water change of 20% every week or 2

Hey mate, u should be fine if you have an established filter.

Fill and drain the tank 3 times over and then the filter should handle the ammonia after that. It's a big spike in the first fill but dies out very quick [emoji106]
