My Oscar keeps going to the surface and "spitting" at his hood. Why? It sounds like a pebble hitting glass. My roommate even thought he was throwing small pebbles at one point. He is 2.5 to 3 inches long.

Sometimes fish spit at their food to get it to fall into the water. Maybe he thinks there is food...food

Or he could just be amusing himself. Oscars are very much like managuense (jaguar) cichlids, very intelligent and will find ways to keep themselves entertained.

Get him a clean ping pong ball to play with. Or even a large marble.

My old jag would roll a round rock all over his tank. Then he'd build up the gravel on one side, push the rock up the "hill" and let it roll down. He'd push it around the tank a few times then do it all over again.

He has a little pink whistle that looks like a whale he plays with. But it sinks. I know I need to get him other toys.

Over a decade ago I had an Oscar that would spit at me when I passed by the tank if he was hungry. That started when he was about 4".
