Sponge filter help

I have a sponge filter running on my 5 and 20 gal tank. They are both coming off of the same air pump. The pump has different seething such as a low, medium, and high. What is the best setting for the pump to be on?

I usually run an air valve going to each piece of equipment that will allow me to specifically control the flow for every separate thing attaching it. They are easy to find along with airline tubing.

Ok but what will allow the water to pump faster? Slow bubbles or fast ones?

As far as I understand, the air pushes the water up the tube, so a higher setting would pull the water up quicker.

I would say the more the better, more flow.
