I have a 55 set up and i put pool sand for the bottom and my question is should I be running a sponge filter because of the sand I dont have the best water where I live so wondering if I should add a sponge filter . I am running a emperor 450 w/ o the extendtion so it doesnt get to near the sand . I also read I believe on here that I should put some kinde of sponge on my intake of my back filter to keep sand from getting into impeller. Where can I get one of those??

You dont need a sponge on your filter intake unless it's right at the bottom close to the substrate. PFS is quite heavy, I've never had an issue with sucking it up in the filter, and I've had it in 10 tanks or more.
