starting up a fry tank

I have a pregnant platy in my hospital tank right now ( 10 gallon) and I am setting up an additional 10 gallon as a fry tank. Should I cycle the new filter in the new tank by seeding the media or should I just run it on one of my established tanks?

I think you can do either one. I don't think it will make a difference.

What's eveyones thoughts on substrate in a fry tank? The tank mom is in right now has black gravel but I have another 10 gallon I can set up with no substrate

I think it's easiest without gravel, but mine has eco complete. It wasn't supposed to be a fry tank! Mine was a 5g planted tank, but my really nice platy popped.
