I'm in the process of setting up a new aquarium and would love some advice on stocking. I've kept fish in the past but not for a long time so I'm doing my research and learning all the new changes since then. As a kid I used the one inch of fish per gallon. I know now how wrong that can be. I'm also in the know about surface area and played around on Aqua Advisor. I know those are just rough guidelines as well so I'm coming here to ask the experts (never hurts to suck up a little ).
Anyway enough rambling. I'm setting up a 40 gallon breeder as a South American blackwater. My filter is a Rena XP3. I'm hoping that that will give me room for two shoals of small tetras and one of Corydoras. Well room and without it looking like a circus. To be honest I haven't actually made up my mind on what to keep lol. For tetras I've looked at glowlights, black neons, silvertips, lemons, January, and X-ray. For Corydoras I'm leaning towards probably either false bandits or three-lined.
So does anyone have any advice on numbers I can keep or even other species I should look at (like some kind of dwarf pleco) for a setup like this. Hatchets are a no no for me btw, since my tank is open. Sorry I'm sure everyone gets sick of answering questions from newbies about stocking but I did suck up a little at least.
