Strength and look of acrylic

Since browsing this part of the forum, I have become truly interested in building my own tank. Before I can do this, I need two questions asked however.

1- How strong are DIY acrylic tanks (provided it is properly constructed) compared to, say, a commercially fabricated glass tank?

2- How do acrylic tanks look compared to glass tanks? Do they retain their transparency over time, or do they get stained and "fog up"?

2. cell cast acrylic doesnt louse its transparency.. extruded can glaze.
