Hey guys,

I had a question regarding substrate choice. I've seen multiple types of substrate in tanks that limits the growth of plants to certain areas and provides a nice open field for view in the center. I've seen it usually consist of potting mix and fluorite for the plant growth part, and sand for the non-plant part as seen in this video:
. Is my guess correct for the actual substrate choices?

Thanks,

Plants will grow just fine in sand. You can use plastic dividers to keep runners from growing under the soil or just keep them trimmed enough that it won't matter.
