Im planning to redo my 29g deep with black gravel. It comes in 10 pound bags and Im not sure how many lbs I need to make a 2 inch bed.

You can pick up a 50 lb bag of Black Diamond blasting grit for about $8 at Tractor Supply. It's coal slag, but looks and acts like sand for aquarium purposes. IME sand is easier to maintain than gravel, looks like this in the tank (back glass is also painted black):

Looks fantastic, but one needs to be very careful what you put in a tank with blasting grit.... being crushed slag it has very sharp edges. If you have bottom dwellers, especially burrowers like Kuhli's, this is not the best idea. Looks great, and will work, as long as it matches your livestock.
