How often do I need to hoover substrate? I have a 20 gallon tank thats fairly new so doung 2-3 times a week partial water changes (bout 1/3) but dont know if I should disturb the gravel each time or just hover over top of it. Any advice appreciated

i have to vac my sand every day due to huge pleco = huge poop machine.. i hover over the sand and once a week give it a good stir up to clean it. but saying this my sand is pretty clean as my pleco digs 99% of it up into a pyramid every night ! so nothing really gets under it lol.. its just a pain to level it out every day

i think its up to you. if your filter and other things in your tank have plenty of good bacteria it should be ok.

I vac about a third of my gravel each week, a different third each week. The other third is covered with decor. I always check my hot spots where junk settles the most though.
