I have been looking into different sands for my tank and im considering the eco complete cichlid sand. Unfortunately the best i can find is $25 for a 20 pound bag, and for 1 inch of sand across the bottom I will need 131 pounds. So I guess my question is does anyone know of something better that I can do that wont cost me $175?

I know one cheap option is pool filter sand. I've used it before and I had no problems with it. It's pretty cheap if memory serves

Check out sand blasting sand. You can get a variety of diameters and colors from a store that specializes or supplies to stores.

Black diamond is coal slag but used widely, and I use Garnet sand actually made out of Garnets and can be purple pink to amber sunset color depending un where it is mined.

Sand blasting sand is generally cleaner than construction sand too. Around 40-50 lbs for ~$18-25.

I will have to look into those, thank you.
