So I'm working with a 60 gallon tank and I have been using a fluval 406 canister and aquaclear 50 powerhead and the powerhead claimed it's third and possibly 4th victim today. I'm curious if I need the disruption and flow or will the canister be sufficient?

Powerhead. And it sucks it straight into the little cone on the bottom. For some reason it won't let me post a picture.

It didn't come with a guard or anything like that so they get sucked straight into the bottom

I've taken it off until I have a solution.

I usually just point one of the outputs from the canister up a little at the surface to cause surface disruption.

Get some foam and wrap it around intake like a filter. Use a rubber band to tie it off
