Switching from HOB filters to canister

Hello all! I’m switching from 2 AC 70s to the fluval fx4 on my 75 gallon African cichlid tank... the question I have is can I take all my established media and put it in my canister filter without having a mini cycle?! Thanks for the help guys!

Canisters come with media in them so you'd have to remove that first, but yeah you should be able to do that.

Yea I know the canisters come with the media but my hang on back filter is the same brand as my new canister filter so they both use the same bio media

Go ahead and mix it in. That will help jump start your FX4.

Definitely add some of the established media to your canister filter. You can also take a bit of tank water in a small container and rinse the established media in it and mix it all up with the new one.
