Tank decor?

How close to the filter/heater can I place decorations? I would like to hide them a bit.

In my experiences it doesnt matter

Plant the daylights out of the tank. I have 2 heaters at each end of a 125g heavy planted tank and have not had a problem with heat issues. The plants ( jungle vals ) rub up against the heater, no problem
