TDS meters- useful for FW?

I have one (late night eBaying a year ago :nono: )
But I haven't used it since I got it. I tried keeping shrimp a few months back, but slowly but surely they all died :cry:
I impulsively bought some more at an auction the other night :hide:
If this meter can help me to meet their needs, then I will be able to justify the hundred something dollars I spent on it :facepalm:

I have not raised shrimp myself, but most people start with RODI water, then add tap water back in to achieve a TDS range of 120-160ppm.
 
I use a inline tds meter on my FW tank just to test my new water

I don't see the point in testing the tank water as the tank water is only as good as the water you are adding
