Hello,

Does anyone have any thoughts on a small terra cotta pot being placed into an aquarium? Would it alter the water chemistry or release any toxins? I'm trying to create some "caves" while trying to keep the tank looking as natural/neutral as possible.

Thanks.

I've used the small redish-orange clay pots in my african cichlid tanks for years. Never had a problem with them that I was aware of.

Terra cotta pots are an EXCELLENT way of providing caves and hidey holes for fish in aquariums. Just make sure they're new because used ones may have been exposed to fertilizers, pesticides, etc.

i have terracotta pots in my tank as well, and all i did was rinse them off after purchase and ive never had a problem with them :)

Thanks guys! :)

I picked up a couple today and placed them in the tank. They look really nice & casual in there. The fish are still a little bit wary, but I'm sure they'll come around in time.
