yes they are pretty aggressive fish. Keeping them in community tanks can often be a big challenge, especially with anything that has flowing or colorful fins or in a tank that is not large enough.

They do best in larger groups. Like 8 or more. The theory is that they will become so busy with picking on each other that they leave their tank mates alone. Though to keep a school of them that large you also need a lot of room.

Over all, they are pretty big butt heads and do best in species only tanks.

I have 4 and there aggresive and they bite tails

Um ... hate to break it you, but that's how TB's are:eek:. That's something that should've been mentioned at the LFS where you got them. This is why researching info on fish is so critical. They don't look all that nasty at the LFS, but in their new home? They are notorious and obnoxious fin nippers ... it's the nature of the beast. To compound the issue, you have them in a small school which makes it worst. If you increase them to 7, you'll find they will more focus their aggression on each other as they establish a hierarchy.

Any tankmates that have large flowing fins, like Bettas and Angel Fish could be in for a nasty experience. Increasing their numbers is no guarantee BTW, but it generally does help.

How large is the tank they are in and do they have any other tank mates? They are hardy fish but they can get up to 2-3inches and they have never ending energy! Planted tanks with a large open space near the center helps them feel more at ease.
