Is it possible that too many air bubbles can scare my tetras?

Fish can get scared of bubbles, they could get used to it.
What have you got in mind with so many bubbles?

I bought a new air pump for this 5 gallon tank I have. After installing it I read that that specific air pump is meant to be used for 20-60 gallon tanks.

I personally think that getting scared of bubbles is... weird, but it may happen. Like said above, they'll get used to it, no long term stress or anything. If you are really concerned, get a thin bubble stone that bubbles in a very small area. Shouldn't be a problem though IMO.

Maybe I'm just stoned and over thinking it. I'll be upgrading my tank size within the next few weeks.

... And if I remember correctly, in Finding Nemo the fishes LOVED the bubbles!

if you think it's too many bubbles than just buy a flow valve. they are about $1 and just go right into your airline tubing. your LFS should have it.
